The Social Inclusion and Participation of Immigrants Through Media Literacy Erasmus KA210 project aims to enhance media literacy among immigrant youth, empowering them to critically engage with media, produce news, and participate in public discourse, while fostering collaboration with media professionals and developing policy recommendations for media inclusivity.
Throughout the project, various activities and educational modules are designed to equip participants with both theoretical and practical skills. These activities include:
- Workshops on Media Literacy: A series of interactive workshops are conducted, focusing on critical media analysis, the role of media in shaping public opinion, and the importance of verifying information. These workshops enable participants to understand how media functions and how to spot misinformation and bias in digital content.
- Collaborative Sessions with Journalists and Academics: Regular sessions are held where immigrant youth collaborate with experienced journalists, media professionals, and academics. These sessions provide a platform for discussing media ethics, responsible journalism, and the importance of diversity in media. Participants also learn how to critically engage with media as both consumers and content creators.
- Excursions to Media Organizations: As part of the experiential learning process, the project includes visits to local media organizations, newsrooms, and broadcasting stations. These excursions give participants an inside look at how media is produced and provide networking opportunities with professionals in the field.
- Research and Policy Development: To promote long-term change, the project encourages participants to contribute to research initiatives on media inclusivity and access. This research is used to develop policy recommendations aimed at making media more inclusive for immigrant communities.
- Free Media and Communication Courses: As a concluding aspect of the project, free online courses in media and communication are made available to all participants. These courses cover a broad range of topics, including digital storytelling, media ethics, and communication strategies, ensuring that the skills they acquire during the project can be continually built upon.
Through these comprehensive activities, the project not only enhances media literacy but also fosters personal growth, social inclusion, and active civic engagement among immigrant youth.
