In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2025 Global Liveability Index, Vienna ranked as the world’s second most liveable city, behind Copenhagen. The city scored highly for healthcare, education, and infrastructure, tying with Zurich overall.

In the Times Higher Education 2026 World University Rankings, the University of Vienna ranked 95th globally, becoming the first Austrian university to enter the top 100. The result places it among the top 4% of universities worldwide.

On 1 January 2025, the EU population reached 450.4 million, increasing by more than one million people compared with the previous year. The growth was driven mainly by migration, while deaths continued to outnumber births across the EU.
