How is Europe Handling the Ukrainian Crisis
Session Title: “How is Europe Handling the Ukrainian Crisis”
Date and Time: Monday, 22nd of August 2022 at 7:00 PM CEST.
Platform: StreamYard, Live streamed on Youtube and Twitter
The Russia-Ukraine War unleashed an existential crisis for the international system and confronted us as a direct challenge to the international security order. Although the European Union countries generally try to show solidarity with Ukraine, the EU’s need for oil and gas from Russia prevents the EU from acting as a full union. This situation causes the existence of the EU to be questioned and whether the EU has adequately reacted to the war in Ukraine.
Discussion points of the session:
- Where’s Europe’s leadership during the crisis with Russia?
- What shortcomings of the European Union were revealed due to the Russia’s war against Ukraine?
- Are the solidarity mechanisms of the European Union in the fields of defence and migration sufficient?
- How might Russia react if Ukraine joins the EU?
- Is the EU able to cope without Russia’s oil and gas?
- What might the EU look like 5-7 years after Russia’s War in Ukraine?
